Fold & Scout – Origami World Tour
Travel the globe without leaving your seat! In this creative challenge, you’ll fold five unique origami creations - one from each of the World Scout Regions. From African elephants to Asian peace cranes, every fold tells a story about Scouting, culture, and our planet. Along the way, you’ll discover fascinating facts and explore how each model links to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
For this activity you will need:
- Some paper
- A pair of scissors
- Pens or things to colour in with.
Welcome to the Fold & Scout – Origami World Tour, where Scouts across the world will explore the spirit of Scouting through the art of paper folding. In this activity, you’ll begin your journey by folding a Scout uniform, symbolising the unity that connects us all no matter where we come from. This first origami structure introduces you to the shapes and techniques you’ll use throughout the activity, helping you get comfortable with the basics of origami.
Once your uniform is complete, you’ll be able to move onto new origami structures based upon the Scouting regions. As you explore, you’ll discover five regions, each with a special folding challenge:
- an elephant for the Africa Region, representing strength and community
- a camel for the Arab Region, symbolising endurance and resilience
- a crane for the Asia-Pacific Region, reflecting peace and hope
- a fox for the European Region, representing cleverness and adaptability
- and an eagle for the Interamerica Region, embodying freedom and vision.
With a few sheets of square paper and a sense of adventure, you’ll fold your way across the globe. Follow the guides for each animal and place your finished creations on your map to show the journey you’ve taken. When all your animals are complete, take a moment to look at your world map - each fold represents a connection, a symbol of how Scouts everywhere are united through creativity, learning, and friendship.
As you look at your creations and those made by Scouts around the world, reflect on what you’ve learned. Which folds challenged you most? Which animal did you enjoy creating? And how does this activity remind you of the global family of Scouting?
