Humanitarian action for a greener world
Participants will design and implement a project that addresses local environmental issues while promoting humanitarian action. This project will focus on preventive measures to mitigate environmental disasters, fostering resilience in their communities.
For this activity you will need:
- Trash bags, gloves (for clean-up)
- Seeds or young plants (for planting)
- Educational materials (posters, flyers)
- Camera or smartphone for documentation
- Reach out to local environmental organisations for collaboration
- Identify a local environmental issue: Choose an issue that can lead to environmental disasters (e.g., poor waste management, deforestation, water scarcity).
- Research: Investigate how this issue contributes to potential humanitarian crises in your community (e.g., flooding due to deforestation).
- Develop a preventive action plan: Outline specific actions you can take to address the issue and prevent disasters. This could include organising community clean-ups, tree planting, or educational campaigns about sustainable practices.
- Implement the action: Carry out your plan with the help of friends, family, or local organisations.
- Document your efforts: Collect photos, videos, and reflections on the challenges faced and successes achieved.
- Share your story: Present your project within your Scout group or on social media using the hashtags #JOTAJOTI and #ScoutsForAGreenerWorld. Discuss how your actions can contribute to humanitarian efforts.
Explore the links between environmental degradation and humanitarian crises. Consider reaching out to local NGOs for resources and support. Reflect on how community engagement can strengthen resilience.
