Peace mural
Scouts come together to paint a peace themed mural to promote and showcase peace and harmony. The mural can showcase their creativity and teamwork. It can be based on different themes, it can also create awareness on local issues.
For this activity you will need:
- Brushes (and a roller, optional)
- Paints
- Rags/paper towels
- A bucket of water for cleaning brushes
- String for measuring or using as a guideline
- Stepladder
Objective of the activity
- Exploring creative approaches to address and raise awareness on social issues and spread the message of peace and positivity.
- Bringing together people from the community who feel ownership and share the story behind the mural with the world.
- Utilizing community space in a creative and positive way.
- Create opportunities for dialogue.
- Serve as a landmark and a lasting educational tool for the community.
- An avenue to showcase the community’s diverse culture and tradition through artstyle, symbols and narratives.
Steps
- Pick a space/surface where the mural will be painted.
- Acquire necessary permission to paint on said surface/space.
- Pick a theme for the mural.
- Do line art/practice before painting on the actual surface.
- Prepare the surface (Remove any paint chips or old paint using a scraper and sandpaper).
- Paint your mural.
- Share the story behind the mural with the community, share on social media to raise awareness and inspire others to create Peae themed artworks to spread positivity.
You can share your work with the rest of the world by publishing the whole project using a blog writing/ story/ on social media and inspire others. These murals will transform your community walls into works of art, send messages of peace to the people and start conversations on your local issues.
