UN Environment (Youth and Education Unit) has been working with a range of partners on a youth initiative that is addressing plastic waste including how it affects marine life. The name of the project is the “Tide Turners Plastic Challenge Badge” which seeks to increase awareness and educate young people across largely Commonwealth countries on challenges and solutions related to the production and waste of single use plastics. Since February 2019, over 32,000 young people have started the badge in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, and Mauritius.
