YUNGA Climate Challenge
Are you concerned about climate change? Do you want to make a real difference?
Get ready for a fun, hands-on activity where you will discover how the greenhouse effect really works, pick up simple tips to help protect the planet’s climate, and even try out a science activity just like a real climate scientist!

For this activity you will need:
- Two thermometers
- A see-through container (e.g. glass jar)
- A clock or watch
- A sunlamp or a sunny place for the experiment
Are you curious about how the greenhouse effect really works? You can do a simple experiment to learn more about it:
- Place both thermometers in a sunny area.
- Cover one of the thermometers with an upside-down jar.
- Every minute for ten minutes, record the temperature on both thermometers.
Is there a difference in the temperatures inside the jar and outside of the jar? How is this similar to the greenhouse effect?
Can one person help fight global climate change? Yes! Especially when the simple steps you, your friends and your family take are multiplied by millions of people all over the world. Here are some examples of ways you can make a difference:
- Be smart about the energy you consume
- Be a star of the three Rs
- Shop and eat green
- Travel green
- Watch your water
- Do green gardening
