Bridge Builders Challenge, Environment and Sustainability Challenge

This activity is designed for young people who want to learn where their food comes from and how much effort goes into producing it.

Food grows in gardens and forests. It is fished from oceans and rivers. It is hunted or gathered from the land. But most of our food comes from farms. Sometimes these are small family-run farms or community gardens, and sometimes they are large commercial farms that stretch as far as the eye can see.

It takes land, good soil, the right weather, skills, labor, money, and resources to produce the food we eat. To better understand the effort behind every meal, let’s try to grow our own food.

These activities are available in English, Spanish, and Mayan.!

Food grows in gardens and forests. It is fished from oceans and rivers. It is hunted or gathered from the land. But most of our food comes from farms. Some are small, some are large, but all require work and care. It takes land, healthy soil, the right weather, skills, labor, and resources to produce the food we eat.

These activities help children understand that effort and encourage them to take simple actions to reduce food waste and appreciate the value of food.
